The Mission here at The Society For Hip Hop and Education is to teach our youth and their families using Hip Hop interventions; coping skills, how to think critically and independently resulting in better decision making skills and an overall improved quality of life.
The purpose of this organization is to teach youth and adults how to become more productive citizens in their community, advocate for change in their community, and the world over.
Mainstream Rap music continues to promote harmful messages and ideas to young people providing little to no balance to radio Rap. It is our responsibility to teach the future leaders in our community Hip Hop History. The culture of Hip Hop has been diminished but one of the few great things about all of this technology is being able to curate the type of Hip Hop music that is looked down upon by radio. Hip Hop music has shown signs of the culture returning but at this point they won’t allow one without the other.
We facilitate workshops for groups ranging from ten students, thirty students, and any groups over fifty will be given a presentation or a lecture with a question and answer period to follow. Topics can from but are not limited to; anger management, money management, career planning, college readiness, self-esteem, study skills, and the history of the African diaspora. Our youth can overcome the stronghold that society has placed on them using Hip Hop Culture. Great Hip Hop still exists and one thing we can do is expose our young people to more Hip Hop and not just radio Rap if we want to assist in their chances of success in this world. We have to be that example musically just as we would morally.
