Hello Hip Hop Heads! We are back in a new week of life and creativity. There is a lot of new and fresh Hip Hop music out there and the Hamilton Mixtape is one of those projects. The complete project itself will be released this weekend but the songs that I’ve been listening too sounds like raw Hip Hop with the incredible production and emcees from the mainstream, underground, and in between. Recently, Vice President-Elect Mike Pence went to see the Broadway play “Hamilton”. If you haven’t heard about “Hamilton” on Broadway please do your Googles but I’m pretty sure there weren’t any Republicans in the audience or in the cast for that matter besides Pence and his crew. After the audience booed Pence relentlessly the cast shared their thoughts and feelings about this country’s injustices as Pence stood in the hallway outside the entrance. Pence heard the full remarks which were written by the show’s creator, Lin-Manuel Miranda; the director, Thomas Kail; and the lead producer, Jeffrey Seller, with input from the cast. Shortly after learning about Pence’s night out President-Elect Trump had an opinion to tweet.
I’m not sure but I don’t think that’s something a President should be focusing on. This makes me feel like if anyone meaning any minority or a woman criticizes Trump and his administration about anything even if it has nothing to do with politics that there could be some serious consequences or backlash. If Hamilton wasn’t already critically acclaimed that could’ve hurt ticket sales! Couple that with the false courage that has been instilled in some white males by Trump’s campaign. The next Hamilton show could have a bigot or a racist in the audience and who knows what craziness they’ll spew or damage they will do before, during, or after the show. I know we’re all mad at Kanye West for trying to throw the Carter family under the bus and telling us that he would’ve voted for Trump but at one time he stood on that telethon stage and simply told us that “George Busch doesn’t like Black people.” If any Rapper, any emcee, ANY-BODY makes disparaging remarks about Trump and his administration or any Republican for that matter it seems like they’ll be facing some serious charges.
Public Enemy, The X-Clan, Immortal Technique, and Nas are already on the FBI’s watch list for the messages they convey through their music. YG could not have released “FTD” if Trump was in office at the time of the release. Treason in the U.S.A. is real and could be penalized by death. If the Attorney General and a majority of the Congress is Republican life in prison might not be the punishment that they feel fits the crime. Eminem would probably get a pass because he’s a white guy. You might have a lot of Rappers backtracking certain statements because the label told them too or the company that endorses them are good friends with Trump. The next four years will be like walking on egg shells for everyone in North America because any one incident could either spark the revolution or the dissolution of our sad little society. Forget the Hip Hop police the FBI can just visit you on social media. Trump, Pence, Giuliani, and Gingrich will be the feds taking pictures, so be careful.
